History

The Department of Medical Biology and Genetics was founded in 1980. Prof. Dr. Adnan MENEVŞE is the founding head of department (1980-1990). The second academic member of the department Prof. Dr. E. Sevda MENEVŞE, was not only a part of the establishment of Gazi University School of Medicine Department of Medical Biochemistry and Routine Laboratory but also was one of the first academic members who was appointed in Gazi University Faculty of Pharmacy Department of Biochemistry. Gülser Orhan and Abdullah Ekmekçi were the first assistants of the department.

Our department aims to school researching, questioning and interpreting individuals who bring new visions to science. With active studies in Genomics, transcriptome, proteomic, and tissue and cellular cultures, our department is able to monitor rapid developments in the fields of molecular biology and genetics. 3 Professors, an associate professor, an instructor, a specialist and 2 research assistants continue their academic studies in our department. Our department has graduated 33 post graduate and 28 doctorate students from the date it has been founded until 2011 and hosted 5 research assistants for their specialization between the year 1991-2000. 4 Post Graduate and 10 Doctorate students are continuing their academic studies.
