History

Gazi University Department of Medical Informatics was founded on 07.04.2005 with the proposal of the University Presidency by the Higher Education Council according to article 7/d-2 of the amended law number 2888 of the law number 2547.  The word “Medical Informatics” although indicating information technologies used directly in the field of medicine, is as old as doctors writing down patient information on paper. The word “informatics” covers information and communication. It states the circulation and sharing of information in a meaningful format.
