History

 

  • Gazi University School of Medicine Department of Pediatric Mental Health and Illnesses was founded in 1992 as a field of science and became a department in 1996.

  • After becoming a department it started accepting research assitants via Examination For Specialty In Medicine (TUS) and giving specialty eductaion.

  • Our department also gives rotation education to our university’s and other university’s Psychiatry Departments’ research assistants on Pediatric Psychology. We provide internship opportunities to METU post graduate students in the fields of clinical psychology. Currently adolescent-child-baby polyclinics serve patients with academic members, research assistants and a specialist. We are trying to establish an inpatient unit as an addition to our services.

  • Theoretical and practical education is being provided for our Medical School students. Development is taught in year 3, and mental disorder in children and adolescents in year 5.

  • Specialty trainings, inter-departmental consultations-liasions services, external acamedic research, teaching and cooperation can be listed as in-house and external activities.

  • Seminars and conferences are held by our academic members in and outside of school, in cooperation with The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Foundation, concerning society based attitudes of mothers, fathers and teachers. Our department also participates in school conferences, radio-tv appearences, social services institution and Ministry Of Education’s in service trainings.

  • Here are some activities organised by our department : Adolescent Mental Health Congress, February 2000; National Pediatric and Adolescent Mental Health Congress, April 2001; Adolescent Mental Health Congress December 2009. Our department holds seminars two times a year in Ankara ,n December and May.
