History

 

The foundations of Gazi University department of radiology dates back to the Dr. Muhittin Ülker Emergency Aid and Traumatology Hospital transforming into Gazi University Research and Practice Unit, with limited resources. In 1982, the department of radiology was established in Gazi University internal medicine sciences. It started service in the old building before 1986 and is situated the Gazi Hospital building since 1994.

As of 2011, our department continues its research and education activities with fourteen academic members, five specialists and 31 research assistants under 3 fields; interventional radiology, neuroradiology, and pediatric radiology. While continuing undergraduate and specialist training in the school of medicine, our department contributes to the radiology programs at Gazi University Academy of Professional Health Services and The Faculty of Health Sciences Department of physiotherapy. Our department is in cooperation with Thomas Jefferson Medical Center in ultrasonography and Iowa University in general radiology both in the United States.

The department of radiology is situated in the first floor of our hospital with an area of 2850 m2, but general polyclinic and emergency radiology services are provided in different locations. The department of radiology possesses three cat scan systems, three mammography devices and a prone table biopsy system, ten ultrsonography devices, 2 MRI devices with magnetic powers of 1.5 and 3 Teslas, a digital fluoroscopy device, 2 DSA (angiography) devices, units where computerized radiography and x-ray monitoring can be performed, two bone mineral density measurement systems with which monitoring and interventional radiology service can be provided. Monitoring and interventional applications are performed when necessary with the support of available anaesthesia devices. In addition, a functional imaging service where EEG recordings are made simultaneously with MRs. Paralelly, in the department of radiology, 500000 high standard radiological examinations and interventional processes are performed every year.

Our department of radiology’s vision is to be innovative in the national and the international level, and develop services in accordance with the needs of our country.
