History

 

The department of medical pharmacology was established as a part of Ankara School of Financial and Commercial Sciences in 1980. It started its academic activities with Prof. Dr. Sevim ERCAN’s and a few months later Prof. Dr. Hakan ZENGİL’s appointments in 1980. They first taught classes in the Faculty of Pharmaceutics and Dentistr and after 1981 in Ankara School of Financial and Commercial Sciences Mediacl School. In 1987 Prof. Dr. Özenç TİMLİOĞLU was appointed as an academic member; he retired in 2001 due to age limit. In 2002 Prof. Dr. Yusuf SARIOĞLU and Prof. Dr. Çimen KARASU joined the academic staff. Dr. Canan Uluoğlu was appointed Associate professor in 2003, Dr. H. Zafer Güney in 2005 and Dr. Süreyya Barun in 2006. With the appointment of Dr. Canan Uluoğlu and Dr. H.Zafer Güney professors in 2009, our department today has six professors, one associate professor (Associate Prof. Süreyya Barun) and two instructors who joined us in 2009 (Dr. Sevil Özger İlhan and Dr. Ergin Dileköz).

4 of the students who had specialty and doctorate trainings in our department have become professors and 2 associate professors. Our department which currently schools two research assistants and 15 doctorate students has approximately 300 international articles belonging to our academic members.

Our academic members continue their studies in fields of Isolated organs (aorta, bladder, stomach, corpus cavernosum), electrical zone stimulation, otacoids, diabetes, chronopharmacology, neuropharmacology, pharmacogenetics, smart drug use, clinical drug research, pharmacovigilance, Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and drug interactions.

Places of usage (clinic, laboratory etc.); there are 5 research laboratories.

Main research infrasturcture: Our laboratory possesses an isolated organ bath, tissue perfusion systems, polygraph, HPLC, ABPM (Ambolutory Blood Pressure Monitors), hot-plate device, PCR, laminar flow and a confocal microscope. Experimental models frequently used in our laboratories can be listed as research of various drugs and chemicals’ effects on the isolated smooth muscle and isolated organ preparations, ischemia reperfusion models, evaluation af analgesic effectiveness, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, experimental diabetes, chronobiological models, epilepsy models and pharmacogenetic studies.
