History

 

The department of Anaesthesia and Reanimation which started service at the Dr. Muhittin Ülker Emergency Aid and Traffic Hospital which was a part of Ankara School of Financial and Commercial Sciences (ASFCS) was founded by Dr. Yener Karadenizli and Dr. Hülya Çelebi in 1980. The head of departments of the department of Anaesthesia and Reanimation are Prof. Dr. Yener Karadenizli (1980-2000), Prof. Dr. Şahin Yardım (1980-2000), Prof. Dr. Hülya Çelebi (2003-2006), Prof. Dr. Kadir Kaya (2006-2009) and Prof. Dr. Füsun Bozkırlı (2009-2011). Prof. Dr. Mehmet AKÇABAY is the currents head of department.

With Higher Education Organisation Act in 1982, ASFCS Medical School was renamed Gazi University Medical School, and with the joining of new academic members, the institution served with 7 operating theatres in Beşevler hospital between the years 1986-1996 where operations were performed in fields of Thoracic Surgery, Cardiovascular Surgery, Neurosurgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Ophthalmology, Pediatric Surgery, Otorhinolaryngology, Orthopedics and Traumatology, Urology and General Surgery. In the new building where it moved in 1996, it first had 12 central operating theatres and later with the addition of 3 operating theatres allocated only to Thoracic Surgery and Cardiovascular Surgery and their intensive care units, it continued to serve with 15 operating theatres. In parallel to the increasing number of patients in Gazi University Medical School, academic members increased and 2008 the operating theatres invreased top 18. Later 2 operating theatres were established in the Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic for Obstetrics thus the the total amount of operating theatres are now 23.
