History

Patology Division firs started up in a small room in Emergency and Traumatology Hospital. In that period, Lecturer Dr. Cansen ÇAKALIR had been the first staff and the founder of the division. Prof. Dr. Ali Ulvi ÖZKAN from Ankara University worked in the establishment of the division temporarily. Then Assistant Professor Dr. Sevgi KÜLLÜ from Hacettepe University was integrated  to the division. Prof. Dr. Aydın AKKAYA from GATA was assigned and the division carried out its practices at a prefabric building in the garden of Traffic Hospital. In 1985, Associate Professor Dr. Ömer ULUOĞLU and Assistant Professor Dr. Leyla MEMİŞ started to work at the division. Prof. Dr. Ömer ULUOĞLU had been the head of the division starting from this date till 1997.

In 1987 Associate Professor Dr. Sevgi KÜLLÜ was transferred to Marmara University and Associate Prof. Dr. Cansen ÇAKALIR was transferred to Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine and moved to İstanbul. In 1987 Assistant Professor Dr. Naci EDALI and in 1988 Assistant Professor Dr. Ömür ATAOĞLU joined the division. Patology division had moved to Beşevler Hospital in 1986 and worked in the division formed of a few rooms in the hospital and then in a prefabric building in the front garden and worked in the policlinic for a while and in 1996  moved to its present location on the fourth floor in the hospital. Dr. Tülin ÖYGÜR was assigned in our division in 1989 and in 1998 she started to work at Faculty of Dentistry to organize the Oral Patology division. Dr. Ayşe DURSUN who is one of our first staff was assigned in 1990 and Dr. Gülen AKSOY was assigned in 1992 as Assistant Professor Doctor.

In 1997 Prof. Dr. Leyla MEMİŞ was assigned as the head of the division and had worked in this position since 2003. In 1997 Dr.  Aylar POYRAZ was assigned as the Specialist Doctor and Dr. Cem SEZER was assigned as Lecturer Dr. Cem SEZER moved to Antalya in 2002 and left our division. Dr. Nalan AKYÜREK started to workas Specialist Doctor in our division in 2001 and Dr. Özlem ERDEM was assigned in 2002 as Specialist Doctor in our division. Between 1999-2001 Prof. Dr. Leyla MEMİŞ had been the head of Ankara Patology Association. Between 2003-2006 Prof. Dr. Ayşe DURSUN had become the head of the division. Our lecturer who had been assigned as the Associate Dean of the faculty in 2006 and worked in this position till 2008. Between 2005-2007 Prof. Dr. Leyla MEMİŞ had been the head of Ankara Patology Association and Prof. Dr. Gülen AKYOL had been the deputy head. In this period, Prof. Dr. Gülen AKYOL has been the head of the division. She has still be working in this position. Dr. Pınar UYAR GÖÇÜN was assigned at the division in 2006. In 2007 our division moved to its present location on the fourth floor. The year 2007 had been a very dissapointing year because of the death of our lecturer Prof. Dr. Naci EDALI though the year had started with the new beginings for our division. Within the same year, Prof. Dr. Ömür ATAOĞLU retired from his position in our division. In year 2008 the number of the academic staff increased to 11 with the assignment of Güldal YILMAZ as Associate Professor in our division. In medical patology division, there are still  4 proffessors, 3 associate proffessors, 12 research assistants, 1 biologist, 9 histology technician, 5 secretaries and two staff.
